Why this role exists

You know the feeling of running a sophisticated marketing operation for a product you don’t deeply care about. You are interested in a vocational change that tightly integrates your faith with your comprehensive marketing skills.

Good Faith is a Christian ministry producing content that helps Christians engage the wider secular world with thoughtfulness, curiosity, and Biblical faithfulness. Our flagship podcast regularly features David French, Russell Moore, N.T. Wright, Jessica Hooten Wilson, Andy Crouch, Dan Allender, Nancy French and Pete Wehner. If those names mean something to you, keep reading – you’re our kind of person.

Our primary voice and founder, Curtis Chang, was named by the Washington Post as one of the “Next 50” voices shaping the future of American society. Our Director of Content has won twelve Emmys.

We have developed the right content. What we’ve never had is a full-time Director devoting all their energies to build our audience in a game-changing way. That’s the job.

What you will own

You inherit a compelling content portfolio: podcast, books, and a video curriculum for church small groups. We even produced a worship album with leading Christian artists to help the church sing their way through the tense 2024 election cycle. You benefit from a marketing infrastructure that has grown significantly in recent years.

You know your target audience: Christians who make sense of the world by prioritizing their allegiance to Jesus above all else — and often feel “homeless” as a result. You’re sitting on an untapped total addressable market: academic research we commissioned shows there are 13 million Americans who fit that profile.

Three things define success in your first 24 months:

Grow the Good Faith podcast by 33%. We average 100-120K unique downloads per month and rank in the top 0.5% of podcasts worldwide (according to ListenNotes). We know the podcast market is saturated and changing rapidly, but Good Faith is one of a very few podcasts going after our target audience. We are confident that many more potential listeners are out there. Your job is to get our content to those people.

Crack the code for the church small group market. Church small groups are a vastly under-appreciated channel: they already meet regularly and need dozens of weeks’ worth of programming. But there are also significant marketing obstacles: the product category hardly exists and there are multiple veto points in the adoption process. You’ll get to experiment with The Anxiety Opportunity, a vastly redesigned course that presents a new paradigm on the urgent problem of anxiety in our society. It will be ready for launch by the end of 2026. 6,000 new signups in the first six months after release will tell us you’ve figured out demand generation and distribution.

Beat The After Party. Use what you’ve learned to tackle our most mission-critical initiative: a new small group course advancing a fresh vision for how Christians engage politically. We expect it to ship in mid-2027 with an expected crescendo during the 2028 election cycle. Its predecessor, The After Party, only received a few months of dedicated marketing and still reached over 300,000 individuals. You’ll have more than 6x the time and money. We expect you to minimally double the previous mark.

You own Good Faith’s audience growth strategy across multi-channel marketing: positioning, messaging, audience research, paid and owned media, social, campaign creative, email, website and web conversion, and launch sequencing. You will gain insight into effective marketing strategies by conducting periodic listening sessions with our core supporters. You will also support Curtis in the execution of donor-facing marketing. In the next 24 months, you can deploy a $500,000+ marketing budget. How you leverage this authority and money to meet your goals is your call.

You work with an excellent roster of outside vendors. You already have a marketing operations staffer (part time) to support you, and you can make the case for adding another role under you. You will partner with the Director of Content, who owns editorial vision and production for our core products (which are audio and video content). You report directly to Curtis Chang and collaborate closely with him.

What we need from you

Non-negotiable:

  • Track record in content marketing that spans the full funnel, from awareness through adoption. Not just top-of-funnel. Not just demand capture. The whole arc.
  • Real fluency with segmentation, conversion funnels, and the discipline of picking the right metric and optimizing against it.
  • Experience in effectively managing staff, consultants, and other vendor types.
  • Combination of “really smart” with “roll up your sleeves” – executional skill, speed, and attention to detail matter a lot.
  • Deep personal Christian commitment, and enough fluency with the theological ideas behind our work to market it without flattening it. Your professional track record can be entirely secular (we think this will be true of many of the best candidates), but you have to be able to translate.

Also great:

  • Fluency with AI tools, or the appetite to get there fast.
  • Experience marketing to churches, denominations, or faith-based institutions.
  • Experience in a startup or early-stage environment.

What this will feel like

Culturally, I greatly value a commitment to resolve tensions quickly and cleanly, and the emotional intelligence to do so. Operationally, I lead the team like a founder of a startup: establish clarity about what needs to happen, move fast, experiment and learn, and iterate.

As your manager, I will trust you with a great deal of autonomy and expect very high initiative and reliable follow-through. In the first months, I need you to diagnose while you’re already moving, not before you start executing. You’ll create a new outreach strategy in the morning and build the email sequence in the afternoon. If you want a large department and clean handoffs – this isn’t it. If you’ve been yearning for a job where you get to decide and then make it happen, all for a cause highly meaningful to you, then this very well could be it.

How to apply

Send a resume and a one-page cover letter to marketingdirector@goodfaith.org. It comes straight to me. I’m deliberately not telling you what to put in it, and I will personally read every letter — no recruiter screen, no keyword filter. You will hear from me within 10 business days if I want to go further.
